The Foundation was developed in 1999 to help these older adults achieve their long-term care goals through the Care Coordination program. 73 out of 88 counties in Ohio have Senior Service Levies to aid in expanding services to older adults. Of the four counties Direction Home Akron Canton serves (Portage, Stark, Summit, and Wayne), none of them benefit from the funding of a Senior Service Levy. A large percentage of the Foundation's funds go directly towards the advocacy efforts of influencing public policy pertaining to older adults and their well-being, including Senior Service Levy efforts. Donations Donations from individuals, such as yourself, play a huge role in the efforts of the Great Akron/Canton Area Agency on Aging Foundation. One hundred percent of your donations will go to the aforementioned causes. The ultimate goal of the Foundation is to ensure proper long-term care options for older adults of all ages. Foundation Mission To enable older adults not eligible for government assistance to remain independent and secure at home through access to a range of supportive services Foundation Vision All older adults in our region shall have access to community-based long term care regardless of their ability to pay. Funding of the Foundation Annual Foundation Raffle Each year the Area Agency on Aging's Raffle Campaign raises over $100,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to advocacy efforts geared towards influencing public policy for the betterment of older adults. The prizes are purchased through points earned on the Agency credit cards or are donated by generous organizations and businesses in the community. Past prizes have included all-inclusive seven-day trips to various exotic locations, home theatre packages, Visa giftcards, spa packages, and more! Care for a Lifetime The Care for a Lifetime Campaign is an internal fundraising effort lead by the employees of the Area Agency on Aging. In past years, employees have donated over $50,000. These funds help to place ten moderate income older adults on the Care Coordination program and assist in outreach efforts that include radio spots, community education efforts, and direct mail pieces.
